Melissa is a self-proclaimed street squid who snuck her way into racing and is currently the lead technician for the Altus Motorsports team which races a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 in the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 series with rider Cameron Petersen on-board. We start off talking about the team’s very successful weekend at PittRace, where rider Cam won both Stock 1000 races. We also talk about how Melissa got into motorcycles in college and made the progression from street rider, to track rider, to club racer, and then to mechanic, professional racer, and team owner. In this episode I have a great discussion with Alex, Henry and Ian, the founders of Brake Free. Brake Free's first product, which they describe as "The Smart Brake Light For Your Helmet", is a device that easily mounts to the back of your helmet and provides a third brake like, similar to the ones you see on all cars today. Brake Free requires no external wiring, and has built in circuitry to sense when you are light braking, hard braking, engine braking, and so on. The goal is to make you more visible on the road and to help avoid one of the most common accidents for motorcyclists...being hit from behind by another vehicle.
